The one and only walking tour of Aki-no Miyajima, Japan

Invitation to Miyajima Island

Welcome to Miyajima!!

Miyajima, an island located in Seto Inland Sea, is one of the three MUST SEE senic spots in Japan. Once you disembark at the island you will face tremendous beautiful cultural assets such as Itsukushima Shintou Shrine, Otorii gate, and  Five Storied Pagoda loved by aristocrats in the 12th century Heian period .

Itsukushima Shintou Shrine, designated as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site in 1996, is a symbol of the island:Miyajima. “Miya” means a Shinto Shrine and “Jima” means an island, so Miyajima means the island that the Shinto Shrine is located on. The prosperity started from 1400 years ago. The shrine is known for the unique and bold concept of being built in the sea as well as its elegant architectural style called “Shinden Zukuri”. The vermilion-painted main building creates a beautiful contrast with the blue sea and green mountains. You will recognize that this historical piece of cultural heritage stands in perfect harmony with its natural surroundings.

Otorii gate, one of the most important structures which consist the shrine, stands as an entrance for pilgrims by boat.  It has been built in the sea. You can walk around and touch it when the tide is low. When the tide is high you will see the appearance on water. The gate is not only a part of  the shrine but also an icon of  scenery in Japan.

On our tour, we will also introduce the lives of the residents and how the people have preserved the shrine and the the townscape.

Why don’t you visit Mt.Misen after the tour? You will feel spiritusal and holy atmosphere there and enjoy a great panorama of 360 degrees without obstructions from its top. On a fine clear day, this point shows you an island-studded sea beauty of the Seto Inland Sea.

We, all of  the tour staff , will be pleasure to support you as much as we can to make your visit become unforgettable memories for you.
